The strain of marijuana Skunk is one of the oldest and best-known marijuana races and its used to cross really often, being part of one of the most acclaimed genetics in the world. At the end of the 60's, when only a few marijuana strains were known, almost all of them came from different parts of the planet a new marijuana arises in the U.S. and surprises all those who try, both for its intense aroma as for its incredible power and yield. It was thus created the strain that it is going to dominate both the market and the cannabic cups of the next decades, the Skunk.
The creator of this strain is Sam The Skunkman, this is not a landrace but a cross between pure strains of Indica Afghani (25%), Columbian Gold (50%) and Acapulco Gold (25%). From here there are different versions of the story: one of them is given by Sam himself, who claims to be the sole creator of this strain, the other indicates that it was a collective project of a group of growers.
According to this second hypothesis, at the end of the 1960s a group of growers from Northern California carried out different experiments with Columbian Gold and Afghan Indicas, getting often unstable results. This group of growers was called Sacred Seeds and Sam The Skunkman himself was the head and production manager. Little by little, these seeds were distributed and began to be very well known throughout California. In order to stabilize the genetics and improve their quality were introduced different genetics, among which would be the Acapulco Gold.
In that years there were botrytis outbreaks and as a result of this problem the team began to test different Afghan strains to offer greater resistance to Skunk, ending with the perfect blend, a strain called Skunk #1 that was put on sale in the late 70s.
With fame came problems and the police decided to close all Sacred Seeds activity. It was the cunning of Sam The Skunkman that allowed to recover the seeds that were believed to have lost forever, eluding the police in a masterstroke and taking the seeds to Europe, specifically to Netherlands. There he won cup after cup and, when he closed his seed bank, he handed them over to Neville Shoenmakers who added them to their catalogue at The Sensi Seeds Bank. Different genetic lines have been created from the Skunk strain, within which we highlight for their power and production the famous Critical, already famous all over the world.
The most outstanding characteristics within the Skunk marijuana strain are its characteristic aroma that is described as skunk, glue, ammonia or musk and its enormous power and production, among it resistance which earned it the prohibition of presenting to cannabis cups such was its superiority.
Among the strains of the strain of the Skunk race, the most notable are Skunk #1 of Sensi Seeds (which is the one that maintains the original genetic line) and Skunk #11 from Dutch Passion.
