Calibrators and liquid meters

Calibration buffers are the ideal complement to PH and EC meters. The meters are used to regulate the pH and EC of the soil or water and adapt it to the needs of the crop. The PH is one of the factors to take into account when growing plants like Cannabis. It measures the acidity of the soil and ranges from 1 to 14, with 7 being the neutral pH.

Cannabis plants need an acidity level below the neutral PH. Depending on the stage of the life cycle at which they are, they will need a certain pH level or another, so it is not possible to give values which are valid for the whole life cycle of the crop.

In general, the PH during the growth phase needs to be established around 5.5 points of acidity. The reason? Because acidity around 5.5 favours the absorption of more nutrients than other values.

Furthermore, during the flowering stage, one of the most important stages in the life cycle of marijuana, the acidity should be set at around 6.0 and 6.5. In this way, these values help the plants to better absorb phosphorus and potassium, as these are the nutrients that are most needed for flower development.

In addition to liquids for calibrating acidity meters, there are also liquids for calibrating electroconductivity (EC) meters. The EC measures the electroconductivity of water, or in other words, the amount of nutrients present in the irrigation water or a nutrient solution.

Many growers do not attach enough importance to the electroconductivity, even though it is a fundamental value and especially important when making a nutrient solution for a hydroponic plant such as Cannabis.

The EC must be measured constantly, and having the meters well calibrated is vital, so that we can make accurate measurements to keep the plants in a perfect state of nourishment. This is achieved by calibrating the EC meters weekly with the EC calibration buffers.
