The history of White Widow begins with the search for new strains made by a now mythical breeder, Shantibaba. At that time, Shantibaba worked in GreenHouse seedbank along with another famous breeder, Neville Schoenmakers, developing together different strains. In his travels around the world, Shantibaba has met different growers in different parts of the world. In one of those trips, through the mountains of Kerala in southern India, he shared one of his joints with a local, which taught him his crops and some of his IBL strains (in bred line, or strains that have only crossed with themselves in several generations) that he was selecting to achieve greater resin production. This grower offered Shantibaba some of his seeds and he kept them.

In another of his trips, this time accompanied by his girlfriend, Shantibaba crossed South America where he met a Brazilian from the Amazon region who had his own IBL, which had been in his strain for generations. Shantibaba was gifted with some seeds of this unique strains. With later crosses and genetic selection (the selection of an ideal mother took more than 200 tests) was created the White Widow, a genetics that over the years became famous throughout the world.

With fame comes, also, the attempts to copy the work done by Shantibaba and Greenhouse Seeds, so the breeder, when he ceased his collaboration with GreenHouse, brought one of his clones and renamed it Black Widow, which is currently available in the catalog of Mr. Nice Seeds.

We have to remember that the strain White Widow, of GreenHouse Seeds, was the winner of the High Times Cannabis Cup in 1995, the same year that it was premiered in this competition.
