The Northern Lights marijuana strain, aka NL, is one of the oldest and most recognized races. Along with the Skunk strain and the Haze strain, the Northern Lights strain includes a set of highly prized strains that reached world fame in a very short time. This strain is recognized and distinguished from the others by its powerful and relaxing effect and a mild aroma, so it is a strain highly recommended for when you want a plant with almost no smell. Another important characteristic of this strain is its high resin production.
Northern Lights race has emerged in the late 70's by the hand of a grower known as The Indian, who grew and crossed their plants in an island near Seattle, Washington (USA). There, this breeder worked with Afghan Indian genetics that he used to create this wonder but the exact cross that he has used to create the Northern Lights is not known. There are also those who claim that in his genetics there is a mixture of a sativa Thai, but it is something that can not be known for sure.
Norther Lights arrival in Europe is made by the hand of the famous breeder Nevil Schoenmakers, who in 1985 introduced in Europe up to 11 different clones of this strain, numbered from #1 (which would be the original cross) to #11. Of these clones the one that has stood out the most for its effect and power was the #5, which later gave rise to the famous strain Northern Lights #5 x Haze by Sensi Seeds Bank. These clones finally stayed with Ben Dronkers when he bought Nevil's share and founded The Sensi Seeds Bank.
In relation to the highlights of the Northern Lights strain we must refer, as indicated above, to the incredible production of resin and the deep relaxing effect offered by this strain. That's where the name comes from, which means Aurora Borealis because it's the best way to see them without having to visit the Nordic countries. Besides its smell is very discreet, so it is an ideal strain for growers who want to avoid filters or directly grow outdoors and do not want the aroma to go very far.
Northern Lights Seeds
Nowadays different specimens of the original clones of the Northern Lights are available to you, many of them crosses of these clones between themselves or with other genetics.
One of the best-selling NL strain is the original Sensi Seeds Northern Lights, which is the result of the crossing between NL#1, NL#2 and NL#5. The result is a very powerful strain with discreet aroma, which brings together the best and most accurate characteristics of this race.
Another outstanding specimen of this strain is the Hash Plant from Sensi Seeds too, which claim to be one of the strains that comes closest to the original genetics of NL#1 since it has barely been crossed. In this case it is only available as a regular strain.
If we want to feel the touch of NL#2 clone, this can be found in Big Bud, Sensi Seeds. This crossing carries Skunk genetics too, but maintains in a fairly unchanged way of the original clone.
