Cannabis palnt (or the mota, as it is usually called locally) arrived to Mexico by the hand of Spaniards, very used to use this plant due to the years of Muslim occupation. The Muslims brought to Spain the tradition of smoking hashish and kief, something that was maintained in their culture until many years after the end of the Muslim occupation of the Spanish peninsula.

When the Spanish colonization gained Mexico, they began to introduce these traditions and with them their marijuana seeds, that besides the hashish and kief, they used to produce textiles and other products. But it wasn't until the 60's and the hippy movements in the United States that Mexican marijuana was going to obtain world fame. During that period there were many who came down from the U.S. to Mexico looking for cheap marijuana ("cheap mota") and that moment began the real business with this plant in Mexico. 

It was there when the small "carteles" began, at the beginning were nothing more than growers with small crops, but over the years they started to get associated between them to be more powerful and became what we know now as dangerous and powerful narcos. These carteles emerged in the mexican golden triangle, between the Sierra Madre Occidental with the union of the states of Chihuahua, Durango and Sinaloa. It was in this area that one of the members of the Guadalajara cartel, Rafa Cairo Quintana, had his crops and began to carry out experiments to select females and isolate them from the males, so that they would not be pollinated. The powerful sinsemilla marijuana was created, which quickly became world famous and established itself as a new standard of quality around the world.

Mexican landraces have long flowering, powerful brain effect and flavors where citrus and exotic woods stand out.
